Mlais M4 Note : Hands-on Review, Specs and Features

Unboxing and Retails Box

Mlais M4 Note comes in a blue color retail box which looks different because of the minimal design and color. Inside the retail box you will find the device, battery, charger and the USB cable. There is no headphone included in the retail box, so you will have to buy one to listen music on your Mlais M4 Note.

The retail box lacks the information about the device like which color of device is inside and any picture of the device as well. You can watch the Mlais M4 Note unboxing video below.

Design

The design of Mlais M4 Note is heavily inspired by the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. At a first glance, it looks exactly like the Galaxy Note 4 but it also got lots of difference. The front side is having the 8 MP front camera and a pair of sensor along with the 5.5-inch HD screen. There is no Gorilla Glass protection on the screen.

Just like the Galaxy Note 4, it also sports a physical Home key. The remaining two capacitive keys are totally invisible when they are not in use and the backlight is off. Mlais M4 Note comes with a metal frame which is painted white inn white model and black in black version of Mlais M4 Note while keeping the edges of the frame with metallic finish. The power key and volume rockers are also made of metal.

The 3.5mm audio jack and USB port are at the top and the microphone is given at the bottom. The back panel is removable and sports a faux leather design. 13 MP camera, LED flash and Mlais logo are at the top of the back panel. Two SIM card slots and memory card slot are given inside and are not hot swappable.

Overall, the design is really good and the build quality is impressive as well considering that Mlais M4 Note is a budget smartphone from a new brand.

Hardware Specs and OS

64-bit MTK6732 Quad Core 1.5 Ghz processor and ARM MALI-T760 GPU along with 2GB of RAM, 16GB internal memory, 13 MP primary camera, 8 MP front facing camera and Android 5.0 Lollipop OS. The performance of Mlais M4 Note is really impressive and it scored a whopping 34,000+ in our AnTuTu benchmarking test though it is just a quad-core device.

Out of 16 GB internal memory, around 13 GB is available for users which is again divided into two parts – 8GB for data and around 5 GB for installing apps and games. You can also expand the memory using microSD card slot which supports up to 64GB of card.

2GB RAM of Mlais M4 Note works pretty good with Android 5.0 Lollipop OS and provides lagless user experience, good gaming performance and good multitasking. But when it comes to graphics, Mlais M4 Note do not scores much. Also, you can feel some bugs like slower proximity sensor response sometimes which are basically ROM based bugs and hopefully will be solved with some updates soon.

Screen and Display

Mlais M4 Note comes with a big 5.5 inch HD IPS Screen having 1280*720 pixels resolution and with Full Lamination Technology. Though the PPI ( Pixels per inch ) is less because of the huge screen size, the display quality is still very good and sharp. The display is bright and colors are vivid in display.

The sunlight visibility and viewing angles are nice as well. The screen of lacks Mlais M4 Note lacks a Gorilla Glass protection but considering its price and other features, this point can be ignored. There is an official Smart Cover available for the Mlais M4 Note which you can use for protection of the device, screen and to get some cool features too.

Camera and Imaging

One thing in which Mlais M4 Note really disappointed us was the camera performance. The 13 MP primary camera seems interpolated and so the 8 MP front facing camera. Image coming out from both primary and front camera lacks quality, sharpness and details. Even the HDR mode doesn’t make much difference in image quality.

The primary camera let you record 1080p full HD video but even though the front facing camera is of 8 MP, it let you shoot the video in maximum 480p resolution only which is really waste of the resource. The camera user interface is pretty standard and there is not much additional features and functionality than Gesture Capture and Live Photo mode. But the low light imaging capability of Mlais M4 Note is really good and much better than other handsets in the same price range.

Entertainment and Gaming

The entertainment and gaming on Mlais M4 Note is a mixture of good and bad both. The nice screen and big display provides a nice experience of watching videos and playing games. The sound coming from the earphone is good in quality but you need to play with the equalizer settings of the music player to get the perfect quality as with equalizer off, the sound quality is not good.

2GB RAM performs really well while playing games along with the touchscreen sensitivity and sensors. You will not feel any lag or frame skips and the gameplays are smooth and nice. As mentioned above already, the graphics are not of high quality in Mlais M4 Note which sometimes reduces the gaming experience. But the device can easily handle heavy games like Asphalt 8 :Airborne, Modern Combat 3 etc. Sometimes while playing high-end games, you might feel a bit heating right below the flash.

Battery

Mlais M4 Note comes with a 2400 mAh battery and the battery performance of Mlais M4 Note is average with moderate usage. So if used moderately, you will have to charge the device every night and if you are a heavy user then, it is better to carry a spare battery or charger along with you.

Conclusion

Mlais M4 Note is a great budget Android smartphone which performs very well with respect to the other devices in this price range, having similar specs. The design of the device is nice, having premium build quality with metal frame, good quality display, overall nice performance at a very attractive price tag.

If you are not much into imaging and can manage with the average battery performance then, Mlais M4 Note is a great buy.
