Huawei has announced a new global apps competition Huawei HMS App Innovation Contest seeking to inspire developers to discover the capabilities of the Huawei mobile ecosystem. Registration for this contest is open until 8th October. The contest will move to the preliminary round on 9th October until public voting at end of the month, and the winners will be announced in November.
The Huawei HMS App Innovation Contest is offering a total of $1 million in prizes, to challenge developers around the world to create games and apps to bring better smart life services to Huawei device users.
The contest is intended to encourage developers to explore the power of the HMS Core and to push their own innovation and creativity to bring new experiences to the Huawei platform. The HMS ecosystem and Huawei AppGallery is already bringing new content and digital services to over 600 million Huawei and HONOR users in 170+ countries and regions.
Among the innovative apps created as part of the HMS are:
Aman, an app to help minimize the spread of COVID-19. The app was created by a group of volunteers in Jordan, Aman is a contact tracing app that can alert users if they have been in close proximity to someone infected with the virus, to help control the spread of infection.
eFAWATEERcom, is an app to provide a more convenient way for Huawei users to pay bills with different service providers. The Huawei developer kit has made it easier to integrate the service with different payment gateways, to pay for over 700 services.
Namola is a security app created in South Africa, to help users to contact the emergency services, provide their location and access assistance. Namola is the most downloaded and used personal safety app in the country, with functions to help individuals, family members and community.
StorySign is an app which uses image recognition, OCR and machine learning to translate children’s books into sign language, to making reading more accessible for hearing impaired children. The app, which was created in Australia, uses Huawei’s AI engine to translate any book into Australian Sign Language, to open up the world of books and improve literacy rates.
Huawei has allocated $1 million from the Shining Star developer program as prize money, with a total of $200,000 on offer in each region. Awards will be made of $15,000 each for the top five apps; $15,000 each for the top three games; and $15,000 each for the top three apps with the best social impact. The most popular app will win $5,000, while 12 honorable mentions will receive $2,500 each.
