Global technology brand HONOR has shared an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how it developed the industry-leading HONOR Magic5 Pro smartphone. Debuted at Mobile World Congress 2023, the HONOR Magic5 Pro boasts impressive breakthroughs in design, display, photography, and performance. Now, HONOR is sharing never-seen-before details of its sophisticated R&D practices and facilities.

Equipped with the all-new HONOR Image Engine, the HONOR Magic5 Pro debuts an all-new Millisecond Falcon Capture algorithm, which not only enables some of the fastest capturing speeds on the market, but also pushes the boundaries of image clarity.

To achieve this, HONOR founded its own dedicated camera labs to conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis, which informed the development of its AI algorithm. By solving many challenges around shooting moving scenes with different speed, distance and lighting conditions, the HONOR Magic5 Pro takes the imaging process to a whole new level. For example, its autofocus speed has increased by 245%, compared to the previous generation.

Behind-the-Scenes of Camera and Display Technology for HONOR Magic5 Pro

Powered with intelligent AI Recognition technology, the HONOR Magic5 Pro’s breakthrough AI Motion Sensing feature enables users to capture best moment in fast-moving scenarios, every time. To enable this, HONOR worked closely with Qualcomm to maximize the computing power by fully harnessing the CPU, GPU and NPU, boosting the cache interval by more than six times – from 240 to 1500 milliseconds. With a larger data cache interval and an AI network trained with more than 270,000 images, the HONOR Magic5 Pro’s camera can help users more easily capture their magic moment in movements.

The HONOR Magic5 Pro supports Circadian Night Display and is the first smartphone to receive the TÜV Rheinland Circadian Friendly Certification. The Circadian Night Display brings a sleep-easing mode that regulates blue light and gently transitions the night-time color temperature in a natural way. According to HONOR’s lab tests, this feature can increase melatonin secretion by up to 20% within three hours, helping users to get a better night’s sleep.

HONOR has a long-standing commitment to human-centric eye care innovation, beginning its research of eye care technologies back in 2016. This time, HONOR conducted research, with data collected from 10,000 users to uncover the optimal display dimming technology. Utilizing this research, HONOR developed the Dynamic Dimming feature, which is tested to be effective at lowering eye fatigue by 18% after 45 minutes of use.

HONOR invested over $20 million in quality testing equipment at its world-class Global Compliance and Testing Center (GCTC). Thanks to such sophisticated testing facilities, HONOR can run in-house tests to verify more than 200 certification test standards, including the Conformité Européenne (CE) certification. HONOR goes above and beyond these standards to ensure the best product quality.

For example, with its in-house OTA Anechoic Chamber, HONOR has a perfectly controlled laboratory environment for testing the mobile communications experience. Traditionally, OTA performance and SAR values are opposing concepts and hard to balance, however HONOR’s GCTC is able to help its products deliver best-in-class connectivity performance while maintaining a consistently lower SAR value to ensure user safety. To this end, HONOR’s SAR rating for mass production is 35% lower than the compliance requirement. HONOR runs SAR tests on every single batch of devices, and is the only device OEM to have Qualcomm’s Smart-Transmit SAR certification. It also gained the industry’s coveted Vodafone SAR certification.
