Micromax Funbook is a low end Android 4.0 ICS tablet targeted at student but with lots of features and apps. I was using the Micromax Funbook since last few days. And now it is the time to share my experience and hands-on review of it. All aspects and features of the Micromax Funbook are covered in various sections mentioning pros and cons of each.

Micromax Funbook : Hands-on Review

OS & Processor

Micromax Funbook is having the Android 4.0.2 ICS OS and an impressive 1.2GHz Cortex A8 processor which provides a nice speed to the device performance. It is also having dedicated Dual Mali 2D/3D graphics processor for better gaming experience. The 512MB RAM in Micromax Funbook is relatively low which causes a bit lag if you are a heavy multitasker. It would be better to have the 1GB RAM in it.

The internal memory of the Micromax Funbook is 4GB which is expandable to 32GB using the microSD.

Design

The design of Micromax Funbook is good but also got few drawback. Micromax Funbook is slim, sleek and having rich look from the front and back. All of the ports are on one side only. The power and volume keys are on the top which are not much visible and contribute in the design positively.

But there are big physical Home, Menu and Return keys on the front of the Micromax Funbook. I really do not get the logic of having these buttons in an Android ICS tablet where all these hotkeys always appear on the screen itself. Another poor thing about the design of Micromax Funbook is that it got visible screws on the port side which doesn't look good.

Screen & Display

Micromax Funbook is having 7-inch Capacitive Touchscreen display with 800 x 480 pixel resolution. The display of Micromax Funbook is an average one. It is good for normal use and gaming. But when it comes to watching HD videos, you do not get the expected output. It supports the HD videos but you will not really enjoy it because of the poor display. But again, you have to compromise few things when you are getting a decent quality Android tablet at a very cheap price. So, the display is not that bad according to the price of the device.

Camera

There is no rear camera in the Micromax Funbook but you get a 0.3MP VGA front camera for the video calling purpose. As you can imagine, it does not provide nice quality images but okay for the video calling on Skype etc. It would be better if the camera was a bit better.

Entertainment

Entertainment and education are the most highlighted features of the Micromax Funbook. There are lots of entertainment apps which comes pre-loaded with the Micromax Funbook. You can watch the live TV on Zenga for 30 days. There is the Bollywood Hungama app which let you download more than 6000 songs and 4000 videos free of cost .

Also the Big Flix app is there for all your movies need. You can download more than 600 movies of 9 different languages for the duration of 30 days. The speaker of the Micromax Funbook is loud and having good quality sound. If you are using the earphones then, the sound comes good too.

Productivity

Micromax Funbook is having lots of educational materials in it. You can download interactive educational stuff, videos covering various subjects and topics, ebooks and study materials of class 1 to 12 students and also for the graduation students. You also get the preparatory study materials for Engineering, Medical and MBA tests.

There are few pre-loaded educational content in the device already and you can download lots of study material on your Micromax Funbook. The punchline "Pass Hoga, Timepass Bhi Hoga" describes the Micromax Funbook perfectly.

Connectivity & Network

Micromax Funbook is having WiFi to connect to the network. Unfortunately, it does not having the 3G but you can use the 3G with the help of the 3G USB dongle. And the good news is that it comes with the Tata Photon+ dongle with which you get the free 1GB data transfer for the first two months.

Micromax Funbook is also having the HDMI output and USB ports.

Battery

Micromax Funbook is having a small battery of 2800 mAh only but it works pretty well according to its capacity. Due to small size, it helps in giving a slim look to the Micromax Funbook and also does not contribute much in the weight of the device.

The standby duration is also good for a small battery of this size. The only problem I have faced that sometimes it gets hot while charging the tablet.

Conclusion

Micromax Funbook is a nice Android tablet which comes with lots of features at a very cheap price of Rs 6,499 only. It is targeted for the students and people who want to have a tablet but do not want to spend huge on iPads or Samsung GALAXY Tabs. And it offers lots of attractive stuffs for them. If you just want to have a tablet for leisure, gaming and casual uses then, Micromax Funbook is for you.
