After a long wait, months of speculations, long lists of leaked images and hardware specs finally Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are announced officially by Samsung. So we are having all the hardware specs and features of the next generation of Samsung Galaxy smartphones finally.
Like always, there are two major versions of the Galaxy S8 : the standard Galaxy S8 smartphone with a 5.8-inch screen and the larger variant S8 Plus with a 6.2-inch screen. This time, there is no difference in terms of special screen feature like the curved Edge screen.
Samsung Galaxy S8 comes with a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen with 1440 x 2960 pixel resolution, 570 PPI pixel density and amazing 83.6% screen-to-body ratio. The screen and the back panel both are protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 5. There is no physical Home button provided but a 3D touch button hidden in the tiny bezel right below the screen.
The US model of the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be powered by Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor as the combination of two quad-core Kryo processor clocked at 2.35 GHz and 1.9 GHz. The EMEA variant of Samsung Galaxy S8 will feature the Exynos 8895 octa-core processor as the combination of 2.3 GHz and 1.7 GHz quad-cores.
The amount of RAM is 4 GB and internal memory is 64 GB. There is a memory card slot provided that supports the microSD card of up to 256 GB. The dual-SIM variant comes with the hybrid SIM slot, so the second SIM slot will be used as the memory card slot. The fingerprint sensor is provided at the back right next to the camera.
On the imaging side, there is a Dual-Pixel 12 MP primary camera provided with f/1.7, Phase Detection Autofocus, Optical Image Stabilization, simultaneous 4K video recording and 9MP image capturing. Galaxy S8 is capable of recording videos as 2160p@60fps and 1080p@120fps. There is a dual-video recording mode provided as well. On the front side, there is an 8 MP camera with f/1.7, autofocus, dual video call and Auto HDR
As it was leaked earlier, Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ come with a Lumia Continuum like feature called DeX that let you connect your Galaxy S8 devices with a special dock to an external screen, keyboard and mouse to get a full desktop mode to access the Android apps on a bigger screen.
Another highlighted feature of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ is the Bixby, Samsung's very own virtual assistant and a competitor of famous Siri and Cortana. There is a dedicated physical button provided to launch various section of Bixby. Bixby also integrated in the camera app of Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ to access the ar (Augmented Reality) features of Bixby.
Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus comes with a 6.2-inch screen with same resolution, so the PPI is slightly reduced to 529. The battery capacity is increased to 3500 mAh in it from 3000 mAh of Galaxy S8. Rest all features and hardware specs are exactly similar to the Samsung Galaxy S8.
