When building a gaming rig, one of the most important parts you should pay a lot attention to is the sound. Sure, the processing power and graphics performance of the computer are important, as is the display, however the sound makes up for almost 50% of the gaming (or movie) experience – even the most interesting game will seem dull without a good audio system.

High end speaker systems can go for thousands of dollars, though, so if you’re on a budget like most people, you’ll have to go with something cheaper. Thankfully, cheaper doesn’t mean worse in this case, as you can find a great audio system that provides a great sound and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, either. While a 5.1 system is preferred, a 2.1 speaker setup is plenty enough for gaming, so you can freely choose between the two. With that in mind, here are a few 5.1 and 2.1 audio systems that would make a perfect addition to any gaming rig and which will most likely be well within a normal budget.

5 High Quality, Yet Affordable Audio Systems to Consider for Your Home Gaming Rig

Fluance AVHTB+

Fluance’s AVHTB+ 5.1 speaker system is one of the best systems you can find for under $300, and it can definitely provide more than enough quality and volume for any games. It is also perfect for watching movies, so if you want to turn your PC into an all-in-one entertainment system, you can easily count on Fluance to provide the sound.

Klipsch HD300

If you want a 5.1 audio system, but can’t get the Fluance above because of space constraints, you should really take a look at the Klipsch HD 300. It is a compact system with an audio quality that can easily match anything else on the market at the same price, and a pretty high volume for the size, as well. Klipsch is well known for making high quality audio systems for home theaters and movie lovers, so their speakers will be perfect for a gaming PC, as well.

Polk Audio RM705

The Polk Audio RM705 is a very compact 5.1 audio system that is perfect for a gaming rig in your home. They don’t take a lot of space, but still put out a decent amount of volume – certainly enough for gaming on a computer display. They have a nominal power of 100 Watts RMS, so you can even use them in a bigger living room with a large TV set.

Klipsch Pro Media 2.1

If you don’t need a 5.1 system for any reasons, the Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 are the best speakers you can find in 2.1 format that are relatively affordable and can provide a high sound quality and volume, at the same time. You don’t really need a 5.1 system for gaming when it comes right down to it, and a 2.1 system saves a lot of space, as well.

Logitech Speaker System Z623

If you want to go real cheap and still get a decent audio system suitable for gaming, theLogitech Speaker System Z623 is the only thing I can recommend. This ~$100 2.1 system has a nice sound quality, and although it’s not super loud, it’s loud enough to make any game experience great - with deep bass and clear mid ranges, you’ll get the immersion you’re looking for.

There are plenty of other great audio systems that would work well for a gaming computer, but I’ve found the above to be the best when it comes to the all-important price/performance ratio. If you want to get the best sound for the least amount of money, they are your first bet, so be sure to at least give them a try before looking for something else.
