Motorola Atrix HD : Hands-On Review, Features and Specs

Design

The design of the Motorola Atrix HD is similar to the Motorola Droid Razr. Its dimensions are 5.26 inches tall by 2.75 inches wide and 0.33 inches thick. It has a Kevlar coating on the back and Corning Gorilla Glass on the screen to protect it from scratches and other minor abrasions.

The design features three dedicated keys - Back, Home, and Recent. Motorola Atrix HD supports the Mini-Sim. There is also a Micro-USB port, micro-HDMI port, micro-SD card slot (supports up to 32GB), a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a volume rocker.

Screen and Display

The screen is a 4.5 inch LCD display with Motorola’s ColorBoost technology and a 720p HD resolution with  326 ppi pixel density to provide a nice display. The display is bright and sharp. The Atrix’s viewing angle is also very wide for a pleasant viewing experience.

Hardware, Software and Performance

The Motorola Atrix HD runs on Google’s Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and Motorola’s Motoblur user interface. The user can create up to seven home screens with special templates for organizing apps, widgets, and downloads.

The on board memory is 8GB but you can expand it using the Micro-SD card, supported up to 32GB. Atrix HD is having the standrad 1GB RAM which is good enough for all the usual gaming, browsing and entertainment stuff.

The 1.5GHz dual-core Quadcomm Snapdragon S4 processor gives the Atrix great speed and performance. It is capable of utilizing the very fast 4G LTE speeds. The 1,700mAh battery is non-removable which is a huge drawback according to me. The battery performs good and can last 5.5 hours playing constant HD video. As far as call quality goes, the Atrix HD has around average to good call quality.

Camera

The 8MP camera produces slightly below average image quality and can record full 1080p HD videos. The camera is loaded with features like a fast shutter speed which let the user capture images quickly and accurately, fast auto-focus, panorama, multi shot, special effects, exposure settings, scene presets, and lots of other settings and extra features. The Atrix HD also has a front facing 1.3MP camera for video chatting, self shots and videos.

Features and Apps

The user can launch smartphone apps and tools straight from the lock screen. The Motorola Atrix HD comes pre-loaded with lots of apps, tools, and features. Google loaded their usual apps like Gmail, Google+, and Google Play store where users can go to buy and download music, movies, and more. AT&T also placed a few apps in the phone. These include My AT&T, U-Verse live TV, code scanners, Maps with navigation, and more. Third party and other apps include Kindle, Quick office, Facebook, and access to over 600,000 apps in the Android store.

The main home page is interactive and informational, letting the user know the time and what the weather is like at all times. The Atrix HD can also easily connect to a car docks and HD dock accessories.

Why you should buy Motorola Atrix HD :

The Motorola Atrix HD has a big bright screen, a fast processor, runs on Android 4.0.4, supports 4G LTE speeds, has a durable Kevlar design, a lightweight slim profile, 2 cameras, and has good call quality.

And why you should not :

The Atrix HD’s speakerphone volume is low, the battery is non-removable, it comes preloaded with a lot of bloatware, and the camera quality is subpar.
