Micromax Canvas HD A116 is one of the most popular device Micromax ever came out with. Though the device is not available in the market and the online booking is in progress, I got an unit of Micromax Canvas HD for the review purpose few days back.
After using the device for few days, I am going to share the review of the Micromax Canvas HD A116 covering all the features, pros and cons in various section.
Display
One of the of highlighted feature of Micromax Canvas HD A116 is the display. As the name suggest, it has a 5 inch IPS LCD HD display wit 1280 x 720 pixels resolution and 294 ppi pixels density. The images comes crisp and you will not be able to find any pixel on the screen .
The screen is bright and very easy to use in the outdoors with bright sunlight. Touchscreen is good in quality and works smoothly.
But the color reproduction is not good and due to this, the display on the screen looks a bit faded. It is purely because of the OS and hope that they will work on it.
Design
Design of the phone is nice and it feels good in the hand but the built quality is not good. If you look closely it looks inspired from the HTC and Samsung Galaxy series. The back panel is made of plastic. The only physical keys are volume up, volume down (they are kind of attached together) and the power key.
To keep the cost low, screen is not having the Gorilla glass. But instead of that it is having a protective glass of some unknown brand.
Hardware
Micromax Canvas HD is having a MediaTek 1.2GHz quad-core processor which works pretty fine. You will not feel any lag or issue with the speed of the device. I am a heavy multitasker and gamer, I am totally satisfied with the performance of the device in terms of processor.
Though the RAM is just 1GB in this budget Android smartphone but it is good enough to perform all the tasks. I have played few large size games with heavy graphics but felt no lagging or any kind of issues yet.
OS and Apps
Micromax Canvas HD comes with skinned version of the stock Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. It got some Micromax bloatware, plus few demo games as well which is really annoying.
Though the device is planned to get the Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean, there is OTA option. So either there will be no update or you will have to do it manually when it is available.

Camera
It has a 8MP rear camera and 2MP front camera. The rear camera got features like auto foucs, touch focus, geo-tagging, face detection, LED flash etc.
Camera of the device takes decent quality images but lacks few things as well. It is having no panorama mode and the camera can take video at only 720p when most of the quad-core phones can take 1080p videos without any difficulties.
Entertainment
With its HD display, Micromax Canvas HD is a nice device to enjoy the videos but the sound coming out from the loudspeaker is not much.
The earphone provided is good in quality but this phone does not support any other earphones or headphones. I have tried various earphones of different brands even of Micromax too but none of them worked except the one came with the device.
When it comes to gaming, this phone performs flawlessly and you can play any game without any lags or issues.
Battery
Micromax Canvas HD is having 2000 mAh battery which works pretty okay for the average uses. The standby time is also good and you can go from morning to night with moderate usage like making few phone calls, sending SMS, browsing the Internet and a bit of music.
But if you play games a lot then the maximum duration I got from for the continuous play of some heavy graphics games is 4 hours after a full charge.
Conclusion
Micromax Canvas HD A116 is a nice budget Android phone with features of high end smartphones. It is totally worth of money if you are looking for a feature rich phone under your budget.
