Since last few weeks, there were lots of leaked information regarding Huawei's upcoming HiSilicon Kirin 970 processor were coming out revealing the technical specification of the processor and that it will be part of Huawei Mate 10 and will support with the AI capability.
Huawei also officially started showing a teaser on its social media channels that it is going to unveil something related to AI at the IFA 2017 event. And today Huawei officially announced the HiSicon Kirin 970 processor at the IFA 2017 event that will come with AI features.
As it was expected from Huawei's IFA teaser, Huawei is focusing on AI in the brand new Kirin 970 processor. It is an octa-core 10nm processorand comes with 5.5 billion transistors. Kirin 970 uses the new NPU (Neutral Processing Unit) that is claimed to deliver 25 times the performance with 50 times the power efficiency of a quad-core Cortex-A73 processor, available in the previous-gen Kirin 960 processor.
As it was in rumors since long, now it is confirmed that Huawei's HiSilicon Kirin 970 will bring the AI features on the upcoming Huawei Mate 10 and Huawei's upcoming flagship smartphones.
At the Kirin 970 launch event, Huawei CEO gave a demo of photo recognition technology that showed Kirin 970's NPU processing images 20 times faster than a CPU. Huawei CEO Richard Yu also emphasized that combining the cloud-based and on-device artificial intelligence will help to balance power efficiency and latency of the processor and will provide better battery life to the device using the Kirin 970 chipset.
