Five Steps to Your Success as a Niche Blogger

Choose a Niche You are Passionate About

If your blogging empire becomes successful you will be writing about your chosen topic A LOT. So if you hate technology  don’t write a blog about it. Your passion for a subject will show clearly in your writing and if you hate your subject your readers will see that and read someone else’s blog.

Not only that but writing on a topic you dislike can really demotivate you whereas if you write a blog on something you like it won’t seem like work. If you are interested in fashion it is likely that you will read a lot of fashion news on a daily basis – a lot of knowledge about your chosen niche can take you far.

Stay Focussed on Your Niche

Niche means small and you will need to focus on the small area of whatever it is you are writing about. If you are choosing to write about scuba diving, don’t start branching off into other areas of extreme sports as this can and will lose you readers. If you are an expert in the scuba niche, stick to it – you will, in time reach out to a number of other scuba divers and they will visit you because of your apparent knowledge in the subject.

Be Wary of Trends Changing

Just because something is hot right now, it does not mean it will be in a year. For example, my first blog was all about Beppe Di Marco from Eastenders (I know I’m sad) and when he left the show, my readers grew less interested with my blog. This can happen to almost any blog that is written about a current hot topic. You will be better off choosing a subject that you enjoy yet one that has staying power.

Keyword Research

Blogging is not just about writing engaging text that your readers will love, although this is a big part of it. You also need to keyword optimise your blog so that people will find you in the first place.

For example, if you have a blog on surfing in Australia you need to include ‘surfing in Australia’ or something similar as a targeted keyword in your blog posts. So when people search for this phrase in Google your site will appear – where it appears will depend on other factors.

Traffic, Traffic, Traffic

Your blog is not going to instantly get traffic overnight. Aside from optimising your site for the search engines there are some optional extras that you can implement. Set up a Facebook and Twitter account for your blog and use these to let people know when you make a new post.

Comment on other people’s blogs (don’t spam them) and you may find some people who are interested in what you have to say too. In time as your reputation as an expert grows you may also be asked to write a guest blog post for a popular blog in exchange for links to your blog too.

To really succeed though, you are going to have to put in the time and effort. The successful bloggers and of today didn’t just wake up, think about starting a blog and then make thousands overnight. By following the above tips you are sure to start your journey on the road to niche blogging success.
