There are some situations in which you would like to change the Windows product key of your computer. For example, if you are having a duplicate or unlicensed copy of Windows then you would like to change the product key with a new and original one.

By default, Windows do not provide any such option. But you can do it easily with few lines of commands on your computer. Just follow the steps given below and shown in the video to change the product key of Windows after installation.

HOW TO : Change the Windows Product Key after Installation in Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows Vista

1. Click on the Start menu and type in "cmd" in the search bar. The shortcut for the Command Prompt will appear in the search result.

2. Now, right click on the Command Prompt shortcut and then click on the option "Run As Administrator".


3. The command prompt window will be opened. Now type the line given below. Replace the "New Windows Product Key" with the new Windows product key which you want to add. Hit the Enter key.

slmgr.vbs -ipk "New Windows Product Key"


4. In the next line, type "slmgr.vbs -ato" without quotes and hit Enter. This step is required to activate the new Windows product key you have just entered.

5. You will get a popup notification that Windows has been activated with the product key you have just used.
